The Beautiful Grisette, (after) G. S. Newton, unknown.
Description
This, oil on canvas, painting depicts a scene from 'A Sentimental Journey' where Parson Yorick is visiting Paris and enters a glove shop to ask for directions. Distracted by the beauty of the shop assistant he stays longer than he originally intended and the encounter with the glove-seller becomes increasingly intimate. There is very little written about the artist but it is believed he was friends with Frith. See object CCWSH:1167
